Reiki for Cancer Healing

One of the best things you can hear as a Reiki Master/Teacher is that one of your clients is in complete remission after battling stage 3 breast cancer.

A few days ago, one of my sweetest, most radiant and positivity filled client had sent me an email that left me with the biggest smile on my face, even until now. She had shared with me that her tumor has completely disappeared and her lymph nodes are healthy. No more chemotherapy, no more surgeries and no more radiotherapy, woohoo! She has some maintenance work to do, but other than that, she’s free and in the clear!

We had met just as she was starting chemotherapy and she would schedule in a Reiki healing session between her chemo treatments. The Reiki healing was able to help her feel more comfortable, so that her chemo treatments would be smoother each time. It was able to help her feel more relaxed so she could sink into rest more often (which wasn’t easy for her as she’s a self-proclaimed busy bee). And believe it or not, her body conscious always had a lot to say in each session and we had done a lot of healing work around it all too! It also helped that she had an amazing support network, she was eating healthfully and had a great doctor, who like me, just loved her!

Reiki (a popular form of energy healing) for cancer patients may seem like quack to most people, but I’m pretty sure that the majority of cancer patients who have received Reiki would tell you differently. What I am also surprised to find is that more and more oncologists are open to Reiki and I’m even seeing how medical doctors, nurses and researchers have become Reiki practitioners themselves.

There’s definitely still a lack of scientific evidence for how beneficial Reiki is towards cancer as it is hard to measure a body’s natural energy levels, and the sample sizes for researches that have been done have been deemed too small, but if you look at cancer organizations, most of them have recognized Reiki and have noted that they received positive testimonials from cancer-patients. In the end, what matters most is that cancer patients find it helpful and useful, so there’s really no point for anyone else to agree or disagree with it.

By the way, there was a scientific study done by researchers at the University of Huddersfield on the benefits of Reiki towards women with cancer and what they found was:

“Reiki could be a beneficial tool in the self-management of quality of life issues for women with cancer”. The team now believes that there is a case for Reiki being added to the roster of complementary therapies that are available via the NHS.”

”Acupuncture and other techniques that were regarded as quite unorthodox are prescribed on the NHS, so we just thought that more research on Reiki was needed,” said Dr McCluskey. “We are not suggesting that we can establish scientific effectiveness, but we are adding to the body of evidence for the quality of life benefits it has for women with cancer.”

REIKI HEALING IS COMPLEMENTARY TO MEDICAL THERAPIES TO TREAT CANCER (and other chronic illnesses), IT IS NOT A REPLACEMENT. It is helpful in healing the mental, emotional and physical side effects of cancer treatment.

Reiki can help cancer patients in the following ways:

  1. Pain Management

  2. Speeding up recovery from surgeries or cancer treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation

  3. Have smoother experiences in cancer treatment processes (yes, in real time)

  4. Relief from side effects from chemotherapy or radiation such as nausea, fatigue, bleeding etc.

  5. Relief from stress and anxiety

  6. Experience a deep sense of relaxation

  7. Improved quality of sleep and rest

  8. Improved sense of well-being

  9. Improved sense of peace to cancer patients, terminal cancer patients and their loved ones

  10. Emotional release such as anger, grief, control etc that is associated

  11. Feel supported - emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritual

My wish is for Reiki healing to be mainstream one day. I hope that more people suffering from cancer, chronic illnesses, mental health problems, any caregivers or anyone who would like to improve their well-being in general can have easy access to this wonderfully supportive and healing tool.
