Combining Reiki with Numerology by Corie Chu is first published on Reiki Rays.
Numerology comes from ancient times, most notably through the work of Pythagoras. It used to take hours to create a birth chart, but just like everything else, Numerology has evolved, and now it takes just minutes to create a birth chart.
The Numerology system that I primarily work with was, in fact, inspired by Yogi Bhajan, the Guru who brought Kundalini Yoga to the West.
And while Kundalini heavily involves breathwork, as many of us in this community know, so does Reiki. As a Reiki Master Teacher, a Numerology Teacher, and a student of Kundalini Yoga myself, I’ve found many shared qualities.

Numerology is a practical tool that can help us understand who we are, how we process information mentally, our lessons in life (aka karma), how we are projected to others, and who we really are at the core. It shares our talents and gifts and helps us identify our weaknesses, which is handy so we can work on becoming better in those areas. Additionally, it reveals information about our life’s purpose and insight into reaching it.
Reiki with Numerology has helped me understand who I am and how I can be more effective as a healer. It’s helped my Reiki students massively in identifying how they can best channel Reiki to others too. I’ve found it to be a super useful diagnostic tool for my clients before a Reiki treatment.
In Numerology, we work mainly with numbers between 1-11 (with the exception of a few other Special Numbers and Master Numbers, which we won’t get into here.) Any number above 11 gets reduced to a single-digit number. For example, the number “12” would be viewed as single digits and added together: 1+2 = 3.
Let’s take a look at your/your client’s birth month number, which represents the Lesson Number (aka Karma/Challenges in life). Lessons are typically more common between the ages of 0 and 18. Still, they will continue coming and repeating themselves throughout our lifetime until they are truly addressed.
Only the Universe gets to decide when a lesson is completed. So if you or your client notices a pattern and wonders, “Why does this keep happening to me?” Well, it’s time for some inward journeying. Identifying the Lesson Number can help you look at your specific life teachings from even more angles.

Now, remember, these characteristics ONLY pertain to your/your client’s Lesson Number, so keep in mind that you/your client have so much more to offer from the other 8 numbers. Numbers in different positions are there to bring balance or help resolve karmic lessons, so some “Lessons” may have already been addressed or be in the learning process. Personal year numbers and master cycles will come into effect too!
There’s a vast amount of information in Numerology, so I hope my first article here serves to shed some light on our Reiki community.

Blog Update (July 2021):
Since writing this article three years ago and sharing it with many fellow Reiki master teacher, I’ve had the pleasure of sharing my knowledge about combining Reiki with Numerology knowledge with clients who wanted to make changes in their lives, but mostly in regards to their jobs. I’ve come across many generous clients who are keen to change jobs that could contribute towards helping people, in some way, even just a little bit. Not only does it satisfy their desire to help, but it also brings more meaningfulness and purpose into their lives.
However, while actually exploring options or looking at their current skills, they often turn to jobs that are connected to their Lesson Number instead of their Life Purpose Number. These two Numerology for healing number positions are vastly different from each other. One tells you more about karma and challenges in life. And the other tells us more about what you are here to do in this lifetime. You may be able to learn these life lessons well and want to share them with the world. However, it may not be your purpose. Just because you learned a significant lesson in life doesn’t mean you need to choose a job around it (or create one). And equally, your Life Purpose Number doesn’t necessarily have to reflect your career either.
For example, let’s say someone had a Lesson Number related to a mental health illness. That person experienced severe depression at a young age and was able to heal very well. It may come up as a thought for that person to consider finding a job related to their experience with depression to help others. Maybe that person considers the idea of becoming a mental health professional or social worker. This is an example of someone making a decision based on past experiences.
But what about the natural talents of that person that hasn’t been considered? What about yet-to-be-discovered gifts?
What if that person had healed his depression through painting, but put his paintbrushes down after feeling well again and forgot about all his artwork afterward? What if this person missed that his Life Purpose number is actually related to art, and that’s the direction he’s better off pursuing?
What if his art pieces would actually be more effective in helping a more significant number of people find healing rather than working intimately one-on-one as a mental health professional?
Perhaps he might find his way down the line back into art, but a Numerology reading for this person could have helped him find his path more directly. And yes, of course, there’s divine timing at play too.
However, what I’ve found is that oftentimes people focus too much on the Lesson Number and try to find jobs around it rather than look at their Life Purpose Number.

This is why a full Numerology chart reading is super valuable in helping an intuitive energy healer, and anyone, see the big picture from a neutral perspective that combining Reiki with Numerology has hopefully provided, and thereby help with making life decisions more knowledgeably and efficiently that in tune with their own personal energy flow. I’d love to accompany you in your self-searching, so please don’t hesitate to drop me a message for anything Numerology related concerns.
